What a great Derby we had even with the water 43 feet below full pool . The weather was great for fishing for everyone.

We had 338 contestants and 125 boats.   They came from Alberta and British Columbia, also 5 different US States.  There were 17 kids under the age of 15 that all received $15.00 gift certificates just for being in the derby.  Everyone in the derby was up for door prizes and boy did we have a lot to give out.  It was great fishing, the fish were practically jumping in the boat .  Rainbows  were much bigger than last year they are running between 9 lbs. and 16 lbs. The Kokanee are bigger as well they are running between 7 and 9 inches long.

cruz family

The mentorship award went to the Cruz family of  Calgary, Alberta.  Dad John and his three young kids all fished in the derby and had some of the best attitudes we have ever seen. They are a wonderful family. This mentorship award is awarded to the parent or adult that is teaching the importance of fishing and team work to young kids for our future anglers.  The $100 donation was started by brothers Steve and George JR.Earl many years ago and continues on still in memory of their dad and fishing with him George Earl SR.

This is one of the most exciting events we do here at Koocanusa Resort and Marina and we look so forward to this every year.  It is a lot of work but so worth it in the end.  We would like to thank all the door prize donations that we got and thank you very much for the years of helping make this derby the success it has always been.  Every year we seem to see a lot of new and many of the former contestants.

Thank you to every business and the many individuals that donated the many many door prizes for the contestants.  We appriciate everyoneof you very much.

Next year we have the fishing Derby and the Canadian Holiday is the same weekend.  The Derby and  Canadian Holiday will be May 20th and 21st 2017,

Thank you to everyone that took the time out of their weekend and came to enjoy the Derby with us.

What a great Derby we had even with the water 32 feet below full pool which is the highest it has been.

We had 360 contestants and 180 boats.   They came from Alberta and British Columbia, and 5 different US States.  There were 13 kids under the age of 15 that all received tackle boxes just for being in the derby.  Everyone in the derby was up for door prizes and boy did we have a lot to give out.  It was hard fishing but everyone seemed to have a great time.  Rainbows are not as large as we like to see and the Kokanee were not taking the bait as they usually do.  Water raising fast and melt down from up north through the fishing off for everyone.

The mentorship award went to The Cullum Family. Dad pat and there 4 children.
